Marilyn and her husband, Chesley, are the parents of four grown sons. They home educated the younger three sons for fifteen years, from 1981 until their last son completed high school studies in 1996. The younger two completed all of their elementary and high school education at home and attended Hillsdale College. The youngest graduated from Hillsdale in May 2000. Marilyn and Chesley are Mimi and Papi to home taught grandchildren—five grandsons and a granddaughter.

Marilyn has written numerous articles for almost twenty-five years for publications such as Homeschooling Today, The Teaching Home, Home School Digest, Family Resources and various state homeschooling organization newsletters. She has been active in homeschool support groups and was a co-founder and the first president of a large support group in Texas where the family lived at the time. Marilyn and Chesley returned to Texas after living fourteen years in Maryland. She is a past board member of Maryland Association of Christian Home Educators (MACHE), a Maryland state homeschool organization. She edited the Maryland state newsletter insert in The Teaching Home magazine and was state coordinator for the Home School Legal Defense Congressional Action Program (CAP) and the MinuteM.A.N. (Maryland Alert Network) program for home educators in Maryland.

She and her husband have been board members of the Hillsdale College Parents’ Association where she was president of the board for one year, elected by the board parents. They are now Associates of Hillsdale College. Marilyn is also involved in her church and community. Marilyn’s desire is to encourage homeschoolers and Christian women in the vital areas of administering their households and educating their children. Her practical and encouraging seminars and workshops are available for homeschool events and for Christian women’s gatherings.
